Prom night.... a magical night when dreams come true...

MBHS Prom 2003. Bethesda Hyatt.

This is my record of that night. (I think I might actually add a few pictures from TWHS prom, as well, since I went to their prom, as well. But that will come later)

My group (paired with dates):
me::andrew l
lisa k::john s
jenny y::phil r
debby m::kevin f
lisa l::jimmy ?
We had a semi-difficult time getting this group solidified. I was in charge of planning most of the night, but group-wise, we originally planned to only have eight people, rather than the usual ten-people groups others were going with. However, because one girl had a problem finding a group to go with, she went with us. The problem with being in a small program at school means that there are really only a few groups to choose from, and if we were the one with room, then the extras went to us.

Finding prom dates was not exactly easy, either. In the magnet, you would think that the 2:1 ratio of guys to girls would make it extremely easy for the girls to find dates. But once you look at the total number of students in our particularly small class (90 exactly), you realized that would mean approximately 60 guys. That's not too bad. But then take away those who would refuse to ask a girl or even try to go to prom, and you're probably left with about half that. 30 guys. Then, for each particular group/clique, there were only so many guys. So for the six or seven of my closest girl friends, there would only be an even smaller number of guys to choose from. And of course, there were the "reserved" guys, for girls who liked them openly, or those who were boyfriends. So in the end, the choice was slimmed down to about two or three available guys for prom. Not the best pickings, if you ask me. In fact, I still hold to the statement that our guys had a better selection of girls than we ever had of the guys.

But what can we do? It was a scramble, for a while, before prom night. There were schemes to find dates for friends, and there were plans from teachers to "hook" people together. It was altogether a QUITE hilarious affair. Sometimes. There were problems, of course, with people wanting to ask someone, but that someone already having asked someone else, or between boyfriends and girlfriends if the boy wasn't allowed to go to prom.... But in the end, I think everything worked out nicely.
